While décor and home design trends might change slower than other trends, it’s time to look forward for new flooring trends, especially colour trends. This year, we’re seeing some interesting timber flooring colour choices on the market, and architects and interior designers working on commercial flooring just love it, as they have more options to make it happen for different tastes. Here are some interesting colour trends that might inspire your floors for this year. Looking at the buying trends of clients there has been a noticeable change from the ‘yellow’ and ‘red’ toned timbers, which are starting to be regarded as ‘dated’. The trend is now moving towards grey undertones in timber, giving a much more modern and contemporary look to rooms, complimented by similar coloured furniture and furnishing. These grey and lighter undertone timbers give the client a more flexible range of choice when it comes to designing the rest of the interior space.
The Greige “Grey + Beige”While grey has been trendy for a long time, its dark shade could leave a room a bit cold. Lighter grey is becoming trendier now, especially the most notable “greige”, which is a sensational blend of both grey & beige. It’s warm enough without being too dark and work well with almost every decor while making the room feel more inviting.
Eclipse BlackAn even better option for those who wanted to go for pure black wood floors but found it a bit striking for most rooms, as it tends to work better within some of the more monochromatic colour schemes. It brings more of a shadowy charcoal look to the floor and look great with straight-grain wood patterns and matte finishes. These dark tone timbers are sophisticated and modern, especially when they are combined with elements of gold or silver trim and furnishings.
Blonde White or Off-WhiteSome architects and designers are going for blonde white or off-white wood flooring to create a more open feel to the space, which could also create a “beachy” look to a room. This look can be achieved by different ways, including painting or whitewashing the wood. These floors can be maintained quite easily as long as they are cleaned correctly and create an unparalleled warmth and class to any interior space. Timbers on the higher quality end of the spectrum will have no issue with houses that are home to children and pets.
High VarianceThis is like an ‘All-You-Can-Eat’ option for flooring. If you simply can’t decide which colour to go for, why not have all of them? High variance wood floors are now hugely popular, combining planks of varying shades within the colour scheme. This means the result is a polished, rich & textured look. The room would look more interesting and will be a versatile option for a variety of decorative styles. Another method of doing this is; by using the same type of timber or same colour of timber, but using different sized boards. This achieves a very unique and eclectic, yet rustic style of flooring which is growing more popular very quickly.
